“Too much” is not a thing
On big hair, small comments, and taking up exactly the space you need.

If you have big curly or coily hair, you’ve probably heard it. Too big for the photo. Too wild for the office. Too much to deal with before school. The words are small, but they stay.
This one is for everyone who learned to make their hair smaller before they learned to love it.
Where “too much” comes from
For a long time, a narrow idea of “neat” or “professional” hair left a lot of people out. Curls were tamed, coils were pressed, volume was something to fix. None of that was ever about your hair. It was about a standard that never included it.
What your hair is actually doing
- Volume is what many curls and coils do naturally when they are left to be themselves.
- Shrinkage is your curl pattern springing back up as it dries. Your hair is longer than it looks.
- Frizz is normal for curly hair, especially in damp weather. Sometimes it means your hair wants more moisture or gentler handling. Some days you’ll want to smooth it; some days you won’t.
Small ways to take up space
- Let your hair dry big one day a week, and wear it out.
- Unfollow the before-and-after accounts that make you feel like a “before”.
- Follow people whose hair looks like yours.
- When someone asks if you’re “doing something” with your hair, you can say: yes, I’m wearing it.
Exactly enough
The Coil was made for big hair with big opinions. Wear it up and out, or tie a loose high puff and let it rise. Too much? Darling, it’s exactly enough.
